Written and directed by debutant Aditya Dhar, the film Uri: The Surgical Strike is a thriller patriotic movie based on the most successful covert operation done by Indian army in 2016. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam, the film is a tribute to the Indian army and is set for theatrical release on January 11, 2019.
In 2016, terrorists attacked an Indian Army camp in Uri in Kashmir, causing deaths of 19 Indian soldiers. Eleven days later, India retaliated by attacking terrorists training camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and the operation was termed a “Surgical Strike”.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his RSVP banner Movies, the film was announced after one year of the surgical strike in September, 2017. According to the director and writer Aditya Dhar, the film “Uri: The surgical strike” is “the story of what happened in those eleven days.”
In a discussion with scroll.in, Aditya Dhar mentioned,” All the characters in the film are fictional. In reality, maybe, four majors were sent into battle, but in the film, we follow only one hero’s journey. So we just have Vihan Shergil (played by Vicky Kaushal)”
On January 11, 2019, a fierce battle of patriotism and retaliation will be recreated on screens. Looking forward for the release of this thriller.
