Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt is an upcoming music drama film set to hit the theaters on this Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2019).  Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are first time pairing on the screen. Written and directed by Zoya Akhtar , the film is inspired by two real life rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy who are known for their song ‘Mere Gully Mein’.

The film is about an aspiring rapper from a ghetto in Bombay and his journey from realizing his love for rap, to chasing his dream, and to inadvertently transcending his class.

Zoya Akhtar attended rapper Divine’s show a few years ago and got inspired to highlight the struggles and passion of such artists to the audience and bring forth amazing project “Gully Boy “

The film seems to have been garnering accolades even before it has hit the screens; everyone is super excited and looking forward to it.

The rapper Vivian Fernandes said: “I’m really looking forward that the film will take hip hop to each and every corner, street and village in this country. I want to see more of our youth take up the mic or learn to play an instrument or produce beats and do something different in their careers. The film is inspired by the Mumbai hip hop community and it’s amazing how far we have come in the last few years. With this film, it seems the journey has only begun.”

  1. Rapping sucks. It is ruining the traditional Indian classical music which is the mother of all music. Really a disappointment.
